Recap: Fall 2008 Jam

The 2008 Fall Game Jam took place the last weekend of October, going in to November.

Again, I had 2 teams of 2 students. Unlike the last time, where I had all second year students, everyone was a 1st year, 1st semester students. They were barely 8 weeks in our program!

As a result, both teams worked in Flash and submitted their work to Newgrounds.

Team One: Macrophage
Created a blood-themed game. When I say blood-theme, I do so in the sense of the scientific aspect of it, and not the splattering over the wall type.
It's Right now doing a respectable score on NewGrounds.

Team Two: >Escape<
A Choose your our own Adventure, with an inventory system

Again, First Year Students...
I'll be looking forward to seeing what they do at the next jams!

Recap: Spring 2008 Jam

Our First Game Jam took place Last February, and coincided with the monthly "Game in a Day" competition. It was also to coincide with a kick off for a Microsoft competition, but that never came though. Game in a Day, has sorta sputtered out. The only information I can find from them is on the Great Games Experiment.

I had 2 teams of 2 students take part.

Team One
Created a ghost catching game.
Both of these student have graduated and went off to RIT.

Team Two
Created a game called Lemon Juice. It was about driving down a tree branch collecting lemons while avoiding centipede bugs.

This team would later rebuild the centipede code in Flash for Studio 38's game competition for their submission "Infectious Munch"

They Took Second Place!

This story alone is a great reason why other schools should be doing events like this.

Our New Home

Okay, a blog to collect everything about the Game Jams at NHTI...
Should have thought of creating this sooner!

Hey, even after running two Game Jams already, I'm still working on improving how I do things.
